Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is

Posted by techie on August 3, 2006

I started testing out a new concept where I get paid to post about different subjects. I’m sure many of you are interested in how I Get Paid For Blogging. It’s really easy. Just check out the website. Getting paid on it actually reminds me of what it must be like to be a waitress. My waitress friends always loved that they got a chunk of change each day in tips. Almost every day a chunk of money is transferred to my PayPal account. It’s sweet. I still find it an amazing concept that people would pay money for me to blog about them.

I don’t know about you, but I’m cheap and don’t like to give money to almost anything. Honestly the only thing I am willing to dish out dough is for high speed internet. Call me an addict, but even my wife has realized that high speed internet is something that she can’t give up either.

I guess there are a few other things that I don’t mind spending money on. First, is for someone to make me FOOD!! Who doesn’t like to eat? I also don’t mind paying money for someone to watch my son so I can go out with my wife. In fact, I can pretty much spend money on anything that will make my wife happy.

Where do you put your money?

Addicted to Car and Driver Magazine

Posted by techie on August 1, 2006

I work with a doctor that is just completely fascinated with cars. I swear the man is addicted to Car and Driver Magazine. Sure, I can see why someone can love all the new technologies that are being used in cars. However, he reads and looks at different cars all day long. I think he prefers cars to women. I guess that’s cool to have a passion.

Maybe I’m just jealous that I don’t drive as nice a car as him. I guess I’ll have to start reading Car and Driver Magazine too.

Visit to Grandpa’s House – My One Wish, A Recliner

Posted by techie on July 30, 2006

I just got back from a nice little vacation to my son’s grandfather’s house. I don’t know what it is with my son’s grandfathers, but they both have these big fat recliners that they practically live in. I’m serious about this. One of them even sleeps in it. I guess he likes it better than his bed.

Personally I’m not ready to give up my bed, but having a recliner really changes the way you live life. I found a whole list of recliners online at I can’t believe there is such a large set of recliners to choose from. I personally would have to go with the integrated foot rest, because otherwise the separate foot rest would just cause my wife to go insane. I also like the big fluffy ones better than the leather ones. To each their own. This is just my personal preference. For some reason, this nice fat blue recliner caught my eye. How do you decide with such a large selection?

The pricing at seems pretty reasonable with many of the recliners in the $300-$500 range. I think that’s about as cheap as I’ve found any recliners. Not to mention they offer free shipping. I’m often leary of ordering large pieces of furniture online, because they usually charge you hordes of money on shipping. Add the shipping to the regular costs and I might as well go to the local store.

Now I just need to casually send a link to this post to my wife and we’ll be in business.

Posted by techie on July 30, 2006

The owners of the domain have been fielding hundreds of customer service e-mails and phone calls regarding Google’s AdSense program since the advertising service launched in March 2003.

It turns out that Google doesn’t own the domain despite Google having the very popular Google Adsense.

I’m completely surprised that a company can’t use the power of that domain to generate more revenue for them as a company. This seems like a no brainer. I did find it funny that they applied to participate in Google’s Adsense program and were denied.

Funny/Fake Signatures on Your Credit Card Receipts

Posted by techie on July 30, 2006

I know a number of times I’ve wondered how many people look at the signatures on the credit card receipts. I know I didn’t look when I was working those jobs. The restaurant is even worse. What if I left without a signature at all. I’m not sure there’s much they could do, but forge my signature.

Well, someone has posted examples of signatures they did that people accepted. My favorite was the one where it is just a bunch of lines and not even close to a signature. The Walmart example is funny too.

Kids Should Love School Uniforms – Parents Should Love Them More

Posted by techie on July 29, 2006

Whenever I hear people start to talk about school uniforms I never understand why people don’t like to have school uniforms. When I was in school I would have killed to have school uniforms. Sure, I can see why the cool people will want to wear cool clothes because of course their clothes define them as cool. Whatever, that is the stupidest argument ever.

Parents make a worse argument for not having school uniforms because they want their kids to have an “identity.” What a crock of crap. If you as parents need your children to dress differently to give them an identity then you might want to reconsider this parenting job. Just give up your kids now because dressing is not what’s important in this life.

Ok, so I can understand how some kids need to act cool and play the crowd so their friends don’t think they want to wear school uniforms. That’s the cool thing to do and all. However, deep down each kid and parent should want school uniforms.

Here’s why:
Why do kids want to have to wake up in the morning and decide what they have to wear? Everyone one of us has had and hates the experience of waking up and not knowing what to wear. Problem solved. School Uniforms!!

Do parents really want to go and buy so many different clothes for their children? They should love that they don’t have to wait for their kids to decide what clothes to wear and they don’t have to worry about what to buy their children. In fact, those people who want to buy their school uniforms online they can now. Order the clothes online and then you don’t even have to leave the comfort of your very own home. Don’t worry. These school uniforms aren’t just some generic uniforms. They come in brand name uniforms like Dickies. Take a look at this Dickies Boys Long Sleeve oxford shirt for school uniform. Meets the guidelines and is durable. That’s what having the name Dickies attached to the uniform means.

Let’s just throw one personal opinion out there. At least guys(and probably girls) will do much better in school if modest clothes were worn. School uniforms solves this problem too.

Save Electricity and Beautify the Yard – Solar Lights

Posted by techie on July 29, 2006

I hadn’t really thought about this until I ran across a link to Solar Lights for your yard. It makes a lot of sense.

First, why would you want to have wires running to your outdoor lights? Those wires could either be cut or if you’re of the female gender they might make your yard look “ugly.”

Second, why would you want your lights that run all night to come from your power bill. The reality is that most of the time you don’t care if the lights last most of the night anyway.

Who would have thought there would be such a selection. I also think that the Solar House Number Sign is ingenius. I’d want to find a house with a sign like that.

Hot Hot Summers – Cooling off your Car Using Solar Power

Posted by techie on July 28, 2006

I’ve been living in the heat of Las Vegas for the past year. Let me tell you it is HOOOOTT!! Sometimes it is just absolutely unbearable. The worst part is getting in your car. Even if you turn on your A/C it is so hot the cool air from the A/C is heated up before it actually reaches you. Now that’s what I call hot. Last summer I even had a car with no A/C. I know I’m crazy, but it was all I had.

This summer the heat in cars has gotten a lot of press because a number of children have been found left in cars. Are people really that crazy to leave their children in a hot car? I can’t believe it.

Well, despite some people leaving their children I found an interesting solar powered solution to cool your car up to 30 degrees using an Auto Cool Solar Car Fan. At $15 that’s a steal to keep it cool and not wear down your A/C. Here’s a full description:

Auto Cool Solar Powered Car Fan. Auto Cool is the revolutionary solar powered ventilation system for your car! Using the power of the sun, it blows hot air out of a parked car to keep it up to 30 degrees cooler than it would normally be. Perfectly for those hot summer afternoons! Compact, it fits in any car window and does not need batteries.

Over 2500 Magazines from 24 Different Sites

Posted by techie on July 26, 2006

There are so many friggin magazines out there I can’t believe it. You can find a magazine on almost anything. In fact, I found a website called that compares prices for over 2500 magazines from 24 different sites, and helps people find magazine subscriptions for 3+ years.

That’s a lot of magazines to aggregate. Take my favorite example by taking a look at their list of sports and recreation magazines. That’s a lot of magazines. Plus they have it right placing the best 3 at the top: Sports Illustrated, ESPN Magazine and Sporting News.

The only thing that does surprise me is that the website is still done in HTML. With all that good information it should be database driven with some sort of nice scripting language.
